Bio

Spence Krivulka is a 25 year old artist who studied General Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute of Art. While he currently spends his time in Connecticut, he has lived in Ohio, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Arizona, and the constant upheaval of moving so often in his early life still informs his work today. Other influences on his work include computer games, plants and fungi, his beloved dogs, and dirty laundry.

His work explores concepts of discomfort, loneliness, othering, and confusion with a focus on the body. His current practice incorporates realistic portraiture and stylized line drawings with found imagery through image transfers and collage to create compositions that range from being isolated and intimate to being overwhelmingly complex. Part of his work lies in the process, with the layering and distorting of both hand-drawn and found images mirroring his experience of identity as something that is not only multifaceted but also cumulative and difficult to define.
